The EFT Short Form

  1. Before continuing, please familiarise yourself with the terminology used during EFT by clicking here. It's not necessary to memorise it all, but it will help you to understand the technique better.

  3. The first thing that needs to be done is to pick an issue that is causing some level of distress. It is important to try and be specific about the issue rather than generalising. For example if you suffer from depression it's no good saying "I suffer from depression" but try and target specific things that make you feel depressed, such as "having no friends living near me, makes me feel lonely and depressed".
  4. From this try and pick out the specific aspect, in our example "feel lonely" and then think back to a specific event where you had this feeling. The earlier/more significant event you choose to focus on the better. Avoid getting deeply involved and putting yourself back into the situation in your mind, and just recall it from outside the event as if you are watching something on TV. Let's say that a significant event for our example is when your boyfriend/girlfriend called Fred/Lucy left you.
  5. Once you have decided on a particular event give a score, from 0 to 10, to the amount of distress that that feeling caused during the event and make a note of this score here. (0=no issue, 10=major issue)

  7. Now, before we get down to the actual tapping, you need to create a setup statement. This usually takes the form of "Even though I <state issue>, I'm OK". In our example we would use something like "Even though I felt lonely when Fred/Lucy left me, I'm OK". Put the phrase for the issue in the Setup Statement box below. In our example we would put "felt lonely when Fred/Lucy left me". This is the phrase that we will be saying out loud whilst tapping on the karate chop point and needs to be repeated three times.

  9. And whilst tapping on all the other points you will need to state the specific issue in a short specific phrase (or re-enter the Setup Statement text if this is short enough). In our example we would enter "Felt lonely". This is stated out loud just once for each of the tapping points.

  14. If you're not familiar with the tapping points then you may click here to familiarise yourself with them or alternatively you may just watch the technique in action as you are given the option at the end to return to the beginning and do it again.
  15. Whilst tapping, the statements will be highlighted for you. For best effect you should say these statements out loud.

  17. Upon completion of a round of tapping please recall the event and try to score the distress level again. Then click the Continue button for advice on what to do next.
